R4 Marrow Drive
Be a Hero. Save a Life.
WHY ARE WE HOSTING THE DRIVE?
It can mean the difference between life and death. The R4 Race Committee was inspired to hold a Bone Marrow Drive for the first time in 2008 when we learned of a young man from Monticello, Jared Carlew, who was in need of a donor. Jared, a brave 21 year old, stood before the R4 family of runners, walkers and volunteers, and told us all how important it was that we all become donors. We reported later that year, with great sadness, that Jared passed away. He never had the transplant. Jared’s death has not been in vain. Since that day he addressed us all, the R4 has added over 650 names to the international bone marrow donor bank.
There are many fortunate recipients in our community that found a match, had a transplant and are in remission. Others never find the match, like Gil Sandvoss of Sackett Lake, N.Y., who we also introduced you to in 2008. Gil passed away in September, 2010, never having found the match.
You may be the match!
